Have you ever dreamed of having a lighter, airier home – one that really lets the beauty of your garden in to the house? If you really want to make a statement, or to get the long term benefits of all the wonderful views you could have outside your home, you will need to consider a new window installation. For strength and versatility you can’t beat casement windows.

A casement is basically any window that opens outward, rather than from top to bottom or up and down (like a sash).

You will get one of two basic aspects to a room that you fit with casement windows. If you choose the casement alone, then your room will be bright and spacious, with a preponderance of glass and nice sturdy columns holding it all in. If, though, you go for a casement with awning windows too, you could theoretically have an entire wall made of glass without losing any structural stability.

The casement and awning option is ideal for any room that has a south facing aspect, or that is able to track the progress of the sun throughout the day. The casement windows with awnings on top form a kind of conservatory arrangement, and are hence ideal for an extension off the back of an existing living room or lounge.

The awning part of a casement and awning combination is simply a wide short extra pane, or arrangement of panes, that is installed above the tall casement glazing. The awning window can be opened outward from the top, to let in extra air or to let in a little air where the casement windows are remaining closed.

While it is probably not possible to do a whole room with casements (so you could not, for example, knock out three of your room’s walls and replace them with casements), it is certainly within the bounds of possibility that you will be able to glaze an entire add on with casements.

Having an area of your living space that is almost entirely glazed can really change the interior feel of your home – providing you with a place where you can enjoy the benefits of being outside while you are still inside. In the British climate, of course, that is a particularly advisable and enjoyable thing.

With sometimes cool summers, and unseasonably hot springs and autumns, one never knows when one is going to be able to really enjoy the garden al fresco – but with casement windows making an open glass area in the lounge or living room, one can enjoy all the benefits anyway.

Whether you are looking for a traditional feel or a modern one, the lightness and airiness that comes with good quality casement windows is perfect for any home.
